In most organizations, those
actually running the program
have their own ideas about
exactly how things should
be done. A sign however of
a successful manager is to
actively encourage input from
others before decisions are
made.
For
the Uechi-ryu instructor this
principal can be applied in
the same manner. As the old
saying goes; you never really
know what people want if you
don’t ask!
Try
offering a survey or a questionnaire
to your student’s parents.
You can ask what their concerns
are for their children, what
they want to more of, less
of, etc.
For
students you can ask them
what they want to study more
of, what do they feel weak
on, etc. The topics and questions
are virtually endless.
Another
key trait of successful managers
is how to be diplomatic; beware
that the feedback you get
back may not always be flattering.
Do not take this to heart;
try to understand other people’s
ideas. You are no doubt a
skilled Karate teacher; however
running a club requires different
skills that you may not have
been exposed to yet. Surveys
and questionnaires allow you
to ask specific questions
to students, parents that
directly affect the well-being
of your school.
